Ayurveda Tips for September

Hi everyone, September has always felt like a quiet turning point to me.

The mornings are a little cooler. The evenings come a little earlier. Kids are back in school, vacations are winding down, and most of us settle back into a more familiar routine.

On the surface, it doesn't seem like much has changed. But Ayurveda would say this is one of the most important transitions of the year because nature is quietly changing the conversation.

A Quick Word About September

In Ayurveda, early fall marks the beginning of Vata season. Vata is made up of the qualities of air and space, so it is light, dry, cool, and always moving. As those same qualities become more noticeable outside, they begin influencing us on the inside. This is why the first signs of fall often show up as dry skin, restless sleep, scattered thoughts, or digestion that suddenly becomes less predictable. The body is simply responding to the season.

What Ayurveda Is Paying Attention To Right Now

One of Ayurveda's oldest teachings is that like increases like.

As the weather becomes cooler, dryer, and windier, those same qualities begin accumulating in the body. That's why people who felt grounded and energetic during the summer can suddenly feel anxious, distracted, overwhelmed, or exhausted by late September.

Nothing has "gone wrong."

Your nervous system is responding exactly the way nature designed it to.

The goal isn't to stop Vata from happening. It's to recognize what the season is asking of us. As the world becomes cooler, drier, and more unpredictable, we can create balance by bringing more warmth, nourishment, and consistency into our daily lives.

Things Worth Noticing

This month, simply notice:

  • Are your thoughts moving faster than usual?

  • Are your meals becoming less regular as life gets busier?

  • Do you feel calmer after slowing down, even for a few minutes?

Sometimes the first sign of autumn isn't outside.

Sometimes it's in the pace of our own minds.

One Simple Shift for September

Choose one thing to make predictable.

Maybe it's eating lunch at about the same time every day.

Maybe it's taking ten-minute walk after dinner.

Maybe it's putting your phone away thirty minutes before bed.

Vata loves movement, but your nervous system also needs something it can count on.

Something to Sit With

Instead of asking,

"Why do I feel so scattered?"

Try asking:

"What in my life feels steady right now?"

Sometimes we don't need to control the chaos.

We simply need an anchor.

What's Coming

October is when Vata season settles in. We'll talk about why Ayurveda places so much importance on daily routines and how small habits can become some of the most powerful medicine we have.

Until then, notice the season - not just outside your window, but inside yourself.

Warmly, Sandra
