Cardamom Citrus Transition Tea
Citrus Transition Tea
September can be an interesting month. The calendar says fall, but here in East Texas, summer heat can still be hanging around. In Ayurveda, this is a time to pay attention to the season we are actually experiencing rather than simply following the calendar. This bright, aromatic tea helps support digestion while gently beginning the transition from summer's heat toward fall.
Tea Recipe
Ingredients
1 tsp coriander seeds, lightly crushed
3 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
2–3 strips fresh orange peel
2 cups water
DirectionsSimmer the coriander, cardamom, and orange peel in the water for about 7 minutes. Strain and enjoy warm or at a comfortable temperature.
Benefits of the Herbs
Coriander is naturally cooling and gentle on digestion. It may help reduce bloating and digestive discomfort while helping balance some of the heat that can linger after a long summer.
Cardamom is light, aromatic, and gently warming. It supports comfortable digestion and adds a naturally sweet, refreshing flavor without the stronger heat of spices such as ginger or cinnamon.
Orange peel adds a bright citrus flavor and gently stimulates digestion. Its aromatic qualities make this tea refreshing while helping us begin to welcome the changing season.
Dosha Benefits
Pitta: Coriander helps cool lingering summer heat while the aromatic spices support digestion without being overly heating.
Vata: As fall approaches, Vata begins to become more prominent. The warm tea and gently warming quality of cardamom provide a little grounding without being too heavy.
Kapha: The light, aromatic qualities of coriander, cardamom, and orange peel help keep digestion active without adding heaviness.
