Monthly Balance Tips - May

Hi everyone,
May is a really transitional month with the whole world moving from spring into summer and most people feel the shift.
The heaviness of spring is lifting - the weather is more stable and getting outside feels natural instead of forced, there’s an uptick in motivation, and the routines that felt hard to manage in March or April suddenly feel doable.
It’s tempting to jump straight into doing more; more activity, lighter eating, packed schedules. But Ayurveda encourages easing into this shift instead of rushing it. The energy is returning, but it’s still stabilizing.
A Quick Word About May
In Ayurveda, May straddles late spring when Kapha season is winding down and early summer when Pitta season is beginning. The damp, heavy qualities of early spring are drying out and warming up. The body has mostly finished loosening what it stored during winter, and digestion begins to strengthen again. This is why people naturally start craving lighter foods, more movement, and more time outside. The goal in May is lightening and stimulating gently while protecting the energy that’s coming back.

What's Happening
Late spring is a transition from heaviness toward lightness. Digestion begins to wake up, energy becomes more consistent, and many people naturally start wanting lighter foods, more movement, and more time outside.
Lingering congestion or spring sluggishness often begins to fade.
Ayurveda supports this shift gently with lighter meals, a little less oil and dairy, warming spices to encourage digestion, regular movement, and getting outside more (not extreme changes, just gradual adjustment).

Things Worth Noticing
Instead of forcing a reset, notice:
Are heavy foods no longer sounding appealing?
Does your body want movement earlier in the day?
Are you feeling clearer after being outside?
These are signs the season is naturally shifting you toward lightness. Following that instinct usually works better than imposing a strict plan.

One Simple Shift for May
May is a good time to lighten dinner slightly.
Don’t skip meals or restrict them. Just choosing something a little easier to digest in the evening like soups, cooked vegetables, grains, or simple meals instead of heavy or late-night eating.
This supports digestion and helps the body complete the seasonal transition.

Something to Sit With
Instead of asking,
“How do I take advantage of this energy?”
Try asking:
“What feels lighter — and what still feels heavy?”
The month of May is about choosing lightness without creating depletion.

What's Coming
June begins the shift toward summer, where heat and activity increase. I’ll be sharing more about pacing, hydration, and staying balanced as energy of the fire element continues to rise.
For now, let lightness build gradually so it lasts.
Warmly,
Sandra
