Balancing ourselves from the inside starts with breath.

Let's talk about how to "Breathe Better."

Breathing slower, breathing through the nostrils, and practicing some simple self-care for the schnoz are key ways to support our most vital fuel source: oxygen.

These simple practices help increase oxygen exchange, calm the nervous system, and act as a natural defense against pathogens.

Slow your roll -

Slowing your breathing rate allows more time for oxygen to diffuse into the bloodstream, helping your body absorb more oxygen with each breath.

A slower rhythm also activates the parasympathetic nervous system—the “rest and restore” mode—which calms the body, reduces stress, and can even lower blood pressure.

Breathing through the nose is better for the body and mind -

For the body – The nasal passages act as a natural air filter, trapping allergens and pathogens. Nasal breathing also encourages saliva production, which helps maintain oral hygiene and prevent cavities.

For the mind – Nose breathing influences brain signals linked to emotions and memory, helping you regulate feelings more easily. It also reinforces the “rest and restore” system, giving you a natural sense of calm.

Self-care for the nose? Really?

Yes! The mucous membranes in your nose produce mucus and contain immune components that trap and remove germs, lowering your risk of respiratory infections.

Keeping the cilia (tiny hair-like structures) in your nose moist helps sweep away particles and irritants effectively.

Ayurveda offers Nasya, a practice of oiling the nose, but you can also keep things moist with a humidifier or moisturizing nasal sprays.

Simple tweaks like slower breaths, nasal breathing, and a little self-care can make a big difference.

Breathe better, feel calmer, and let your body thrive.
